Welcome to Members:

We are glad you landed here! Whether you are a new Dame or a 50 year member, you are part of an organization that has a long and proud history in managing historic properties and promoting historical research and patriotic interest in our country. You may be wondering just who we are and where we are. We all claim descent from a person who contributed significantly to our country and its founding before July 5, 1776.

Brief facts about who we are:

  • The National Society of the Colonial Dames of America (NSCDA) was founded in 1891. 2016 marked the 125th Anniversary of NSCDA.
  • The National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in the State of South Carolina (NSCDA-SC) was founded in Charleston in 1893.
  • NSCDA-SC one of 44 Corporate Societies of NSCDA
  • NSCDA-SC is one of the 13 Colonial States within NSCDA. The other 31 are called Associate States. All Ancestors must come from within one of the Colonial States.
  • NSCDA-SC held our first money-raising project in 1895. It was the publication of a women’s newspaper, The Meteor, a supplement to The News and Courier.
  •  NSCDA-SC purchased The Powder Magazine in 1902, saving it from destruction. This is widely believed to be the first preservation project in South Carolina.
  • Today we have over 1,000 members and are the 4th largest Corporate Society, outranked only by North Carolina, Georgia and Virginia.
