Georgetown

Mary Wynne Kellett and Flo Phillips have been Co-Chairs of the Georgetown Town Committee for three years. Our past president, Ann Stokes has been helping us every step of the way. We had a very successful Annual Meeting in 2023. We spent most of the year working together to share the town of Georgetown. Some of us attended the 2024 Annual Meeting in Greenville which was lovely. We have our business meetings and fabulous social events in local homes and gardens.

We have had interesting speakers and historians share their expertise with us. Lee Brockington, a well known local historian has taught us so much about our colonial forefathers from SC. At our last Spring meeting, Tina White from the Powder Magazine came in Colonial dress to explain the importance of the Powder Magazine and why we need to support it. She also demonstrated how to load and shoot the guns that were used during the revolution. Our town committee gave her a $1,500 donation for the Powder Magazine.

The Georgetown Town Committee has been active with the SC 250 in Georgetown. Bill Davies who is a state officer in the SC 250 came to a meeting and explained what  it is all about. Our members have gotten involved and supported a Colonial Kids Camp and Colonial Kids Day Celebration for two years. We also helped with the Francis Marion Living History Day. We had a booth with colonial toys, games and an art contest for children. Later that night we provide a reception for the speaker.

We are looking forward to new projects in the future. There’s nothing like a Dame!
